Teledyne Broadband Relays Deliver Improved Signal Integrity to 10Gbps

Teledyne Relays announce improvements to its Series GRF300 and GRF303 high-repeatability, broadband TO-5 electromechanical relays to deliver 10Gbps data rates for applications where digital signal integrity is paramount.

The relays are designed to provide a practical surface-mount solution with improved RF signal repeatability over the design frequency range, with improved ground connections providing the high data rate signal integrity.

Teledyne collaborated with two customers to evaluate the performance of the GRF300 and GRF303 relays. An eye diagram simulated using the S-parameter data, demonstrating the ability of the relays to transmit 10Gbps signals. The maximum useful bandwidth reached 19–21GHz.

By comparison other relays used in test & measurement equipment, the GRF300 and GRF303 deliver higher performance at lower cost in a package half the size.

With U.S. patent pending, these ultraminiature surface-mount relays employ a unique ground shield that insulates and shields each lead to ensure excellent contact-to-contact and pole-to-pole isolation. The shield also provides the ground plane interface that results in an overall improvement to the high-frequency performance as well as parametric repeatability - specifically the RF insertion loss repeatability measured at +/-0.1dB.

The GRF300 and the sensitive GRF303 are engineered for use in RF attenuators, RF switch matrices, ATE and other applications that require dependable high-frequency signal fidelity and performance. As both relays have two double throw contact sets, they are ideal for differential signal switching applications.

Each type is available with a choice of coil voltages — 5 or 12 volts DC, and both are fully RoHS Compliant and process capable. Additionally, the relays have an all welded construction, are hermetically sealed to offer robust shock, vibration, temperature and ESD resistance, EMI shielding, and immunity to aqueous cleaning solutions.
